Meet Cian
Cian O'Regan is a photographer from Cork City, Ireland.
His journey into photography was sparked by a childhood passion for astronomy, which led him to purchase his first digital camera aged 16 to capture images of the night sky that just can't be taken on a smartphone.
With an initial focus on landscape and astrophotography, he now regularly captures imagery of a diverse range of subjects including current affairs, sports, and local news events as a freelance photographer for The Irish Examiner.
Experience
Cian has previously covered recent Irish political events, including the State Visit of U.S. President Joe Biden, as well as the Agreement 25 Conference.
He is also passionate about documenting sports, covering numerous tournaments on the DP World Tour, the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, and the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.
Cian's standout photographic achievement to date came in March 2023, when his signature image of the International Space Station flying over the Drombeg Stone Circle in West Cork was selected for inclusion in the 'Lights Out' exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. which will remain on display until December 2025.
