On March 23, my photo of Drombeg Stone Circle in west Cork will be going on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. for two years as part of the upcoming 'Lights Out: Recovering Our Night Sky' exhibit.

To celebrate getting my picture onto the walls of the most visited natural history museum in the world, I'm delighted to announce that I'm selling 50 limited edition signed prints - framed and unframed - of my Drombeg image in the following sizes and quantities:

  • 9x6 inches - 15 prints available
  • 12x8 inches - 10 prints available
  • 15x10 inches - 8 prints available
  • 18x12 inches - 7 prints available
  • 24x16 inches - 6 prints available
  • 36x24 inches -  4 prints available

What will my limited edition print look like?

With the option of having a digital inscription included on your print which reads - "Displayed at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Washington, D.C. 2023-2025" - prints are available unframed or framed in a variety of sizes.

All unframed prints will include a white border around the photograph that will be signed and inscribed by Cian in black ink. Your print will order will be printed on Fujicolor Professional DP II Lustre photographic paper for an added Wow! factor - designed to withstand fading for decades.

Framed prints will include a white cardboard mount that will be inscribed, numbered, and signed by Cian as a guarantee of authenticity. About the Image

This image captures the International Space Station (ISS) - with a crew of three on board at the time - flying high above Drombeg Stone Circle in west Cork, Ireland. The image was taken on March 26, 2020, just hours before the mandatory stay-at-home order was enforced in Ireland that marked the beginning of the first COVID-19 lockdown measures.

Also visible in the image is the bright planet Venus, the recognisable constellation of Orion, and the faint glow of lights emanating from the nearby villages of Glandore and Union Hall.

I was asked last year by curators at the Smithsonian to allow them use of the image because they loved how it showed two feats of human engineering built 3,000 years apart in the same image (Drombeg is estimated to have been set down between 1500 BC - 600 BC, with construction of the International Space Station commencing in 1998).

For anyone interested in seeing the photo on display, it will be located on the second floor of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History on the National Mall of Washington D.C. as part of the Lights Out: Recovering Our Night Sky exhibition which runs from March 7, 2023 until December 2025.
